Hidden in Time: Mirror Mirror

The story begins with you receiving good news and bad news. Your antique mirror seems to indicate that you are a descendant of former residents of the great Castle Fairwich. But the bad news is the castle is scheduled to be auction and sold in 9 days, so if you want to solve the mystery of your ancestry, with the help of the castle’s legendary mirror, you’d better start packing.
A pond your arrival at the castle, the local real estate agent refers to the castle as a “fixer upper,” there is junk scatter everywhere throughout the castle. The agent tells you of the magical mirror which was shattered when the Duke would not accept his daughter marrying the son of his maid. You will need to locate and piece together the missing mirror to discover the truth of your own past.

In Mirror Mirror you will travel through 9 different levels, visiting each level twice. During your first visit you will be searching for items on a list, which is classic “Hidden Object” style.
During the second time around you will need to find one of the three secret objects:

  • A portrait of one of the Fairwich clan
  • A locked box
  • A key

In the portrait are messages that contain the tale of Mirror Mirror’s tale; the key unlocks the box, which contains one of the nine mirror shards. In between each level is one of three mini-games: reflecting mirrors, spot-the-difference, and repairing jumbled images. None of them are particularly memorable or engaging.

Hidden in Time: Mirror Mirror

As you travel through the game you will need to adjust the mirrors light beam to reveal hidden messages. Some message will be more difficult to read because they are garbled. Fortunately, you can simply opt to skip the mini-games without invoking any penalty, which is a thoughtful feature of the game.

The levels are will designed, and are really fun to play. If you click on the rubber duck, and it turns out not to be one of the items, it’ll quack at you! How funny is that? While playing you will be ask to locate some very unusual items, like a southern girl in her petticoat.
You will be searching for:

  • Screws
  • Scissors
  • Sailboats.

If you come from royal blood or if you’re an indentured servitude it won’t matter, because this game is fun for all ages. As you scour through the many dusty rooms searching for your items, you will come to enjoy the fine detail each scene has to offer, like the old hand-carved mahogany head boards in the bedroom, and out of place gas wall heater sitting under the window sill.
The story of Mirror Mirror will keep you playing as you revisit scenes a second time. If you're a fan of the hidden object genre, you'll appreciate Mirror Mirror's smart sense of humor and well-chosen lists of items. The story of the young lovers, along with the mysterious mirrors keeps your interest and guessing all the way up until the very end of the game.
